March 1-7 Holbox Mexico - week 10

For my final days in the heat, I decided to go to the the island in Mexico, Holbox.

The area had drawn my attention in a map. Many many times past few years was a calling to go there so I figured I had 5 days. Why not?

The reason I had 5 days was because when I was looking at flights to come back the flight from Bogota to Cancun was the best way to fly without flying through the states and then by some luck there was a a flight that was from Cancun to Calgary direct for like $250 one way.

It was so cheap and so I immediately just booked that booked the Bogota flight. But the timing of those two flights means I had 5 days in Mexico. Cancun specifically, but just 2 hours North by bus and then a ferry. There was this small little island that had been calling my name for years.

So off I went. I didn't get to Cancun until late so I had to stay one night in Cancun. It's a nice place i found in the city (not the hotel zone, think inner city, more gritty) . Nice pool, huge bathroom. It was beautiful so I walked around Cancun and I found a place that makes highly rated pizza. So I went. Had a pizza and a beer and just sat at the counter. Reading my book.

the next morning I got up and I went for a run in the like golf course (like fancy area and popped into Soriana, a big grocery store. Like a Superstore. Got a few snacks for the next few days and then it was time to go to the bus so I walked back to Soriana parking lot which is where the bus was picking me up and..... there's just a like random white van parked there in the shade and that's the bus.  so official. LOL

The drive is pretty uneventful. It's just a wall of trees on either side. Can't see anything so I just read my book and then I got to the ferry terminal.

I was going to book a ferry ride but then some random Mexican convinced me to go on his water taxi instead. WHY NOT?   YOLO.

So I took a water taxi across the lagoon which is about 20-30  minutes.. The water was very green/Brown, Murky.  surprising to me. Then on the way back to Cancun 5 days later the water was very very clear and like crystally blue. So I don't know what was going on that one day. Maybe there was a storm.

But anyway beautiful nonetheless. And then I spent 5 days in my literal Paradise. This is what I love. If I had to pick a dream location it would be this one.  White sand beaches with no massive hotels.

There's only a few tiny boutique hotels on the beach. You can watch the walk the entire beach without anybody harassing you and at least tried to sell you anything. All the roads on the whole island are sand. There's no cars. You just got driven around by golf carts if you want a ride somewhere but FUN FACT I didn't get in one even once because I just walked everywhere.

The island's so small I went swimming. I walked down to a Punta Mosquito. The sandbar.

One day I rented a bike and just rode the bike around to the whole island.

I went for a few runs. I ate delicious food and I lounged in the Caribbean ocean. It was the most phenomenal five days ever. My little boutique Hotel had a gorgeous pool that I spent some time in and the air conditioning in my room was top notch, very powerful and then a fan to circulate the cold air down cuz the AC was on the ceiling.

and later in the week I started my journey back home very to the mainland bus to Cancun flight to Calgary Uber to my car car to Edmonton. Before I left Calgary, i visited Some friends, spent a day at the farm. Saw The horses, had brunch with some ladies and

had a sleepover at my bestie's house. We've known each other since we were 13. It was a great weekend catching up with people in Calgary and now I'm in Edmonton for the next little while.

Thanks for coming. See you in the next one
